House Extension & Remodel in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds

Project Brief

In need of modernisation, we were appointed to oversee the detailed design and construction of a new extension and the remodel of this poorly performing family home. The property was cold, draughty and inefficient, with no real connection to the surrounding garden.

Sustainability & Materials

The existing property was externally insulated to improve the existing fabric. The suspended timber floors were insulated and sealed to remove the draughty floor boards and underfloor heating was installed throughout to maximise floor space and provide an even temperature throughout. The existing roof was stripped back, insulated and recovered with new slates, incorporating integrated photovoltaic panels. An air source heat pump was installed to provide the heating and hot water requirements. The new extension utilised the existing garage floor slab, reducing the required ground works. A timber frame was used to form the extension, which maximised the available space within the building, provided high levels of insulation and allowed a speedy construction on site.

Outcome

The remodel of the house has provided an open plan layout on the ground floor that can be subdivided as needed to suit the clients requirements. A shared central office space was created that can be opened up and shut off as desired during the day. The first floor provides individual bedrooms for the children and a self contained master suite for the adults.
